For thousands of years, Chinese medicine and acupuncture have treated and eased common health conditions. Chinese medicine is centred around the idea of homeostasis, the body’s ability to maintain balance. It follows our fundamental principle at Komyuniti Fitzroy, treating the body as one by focusing on underlying causes, rather than just the symptoms of disease.
Through their practice of acupuncture, our practitioners insert fine needles into the skin at nerve centres throughout the body. When we insert a needle into the nerves, we stimulate the nervous system, which signals the midbrain to release endorphins, enkephalins and increases blood flow to targeted areas throughout your body. When your acupuncture points are stimulated, it alters your experience of pain and discomfort by promoting your body’s internal healing regulating system.
Chinese medicine offers an incredibly diverse range of therapeutic practices, like acupuncture, Chinese herbs in capsule, powder, or tinctured form, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, massage, and dietary advice.
At Komyuniti, our approach to Chinese medicine and acupuncture is all about the individual. Typically, our consultations run for an hour. Through the session, we’ll examine you and create a case history, examining your pulse, tongue, and abdomen. Once you’re diagnosed, we correlate the information into a treatment plan that is designed specifically to enhance your health and wellness. Treatment is considered safe. But as with all other health treatments. Possible associated adverse reactions may occur.
Komyuniti Acupuncturists are trained and proficient with the following systems of acupuncture:
Electro Acupuncture
DNA (Distal Needling Acupuncture)
Dry Needling
Japanese Acupuncture
Motor-point & Trigger-point Needling
Master Tung (Acupuncture)
Scalp acupuncture
The Balance Method (Dr Tan)
The Japanese approach to Acupuncture is more gentle and refined than the Chinese version, so it’s ideal if you’re sensitive to needling or just want to try a more refined approach. We use fine needles, shallow, gentle, and painless insertion, and our practitioners place emphasis on touch and advanced moxibustion techniques. It means that the process is more gentle and soothing on your body.
Moxibustion is the practice of thermal heat stimulation applied to acupuncture points. We combust a traditional herb called mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris latifolia), which provides a different therapeutic effect than needles. Moxibustion is seen as an important adjunct to acupuncture treatment.
At Komyuniti, Fertility is a clinical focus of our practitioners. We are able to support you from preconception care to pregnancy. Management of symptoms that may present during pregnancy to postpartum care. We’ve developed natural fertility and IVF acupuncture programs that go beyond just complementary therapy for infertility. We work alongside Melbourne's fertility and IVF centres, always integrating our programs together to support you with your journey.
